Prospective Students

 

Each year RPAP places up to 40 students in rural communities for a continual nine-month experience. Students work under the direct supervision of board-certified comunity preceptors and other specialists in the community hospital and clinic. Students earn both elective and required course requirements during this time. Students from a wide variety of backgrounds and experience participate in the program.

  • 36 credits; up to 24 required course credits may be fulfilled depending on site
  • Scholarship of up to $14,000
  • One-on-one teaching/mentoring with preceptors and health care staff
  • Extensive hands-on experiences and opportunities
  • Increased confidence and competence in clinical and procedural skills
  • Opportunity to observe/participate in continuity of care
  • Explore business-related aspects of medical practice
  • Examine and treat a large number of patients ranging from newborn to elderly

Requirements

  • A student should be a motivated, independent learner
  • Must pass the USMLE Step I Board Exam
  • Solid academic performance in undergraduate and medical school courses; no incomplete coursework or failures
  • Must successfully complete Medicine I and Women’s Health externships prior to RPAP
  • Immunization schedule must be up-to-date
