Aaron Friedman, M.D., vice president for health sciences and dean, Medical School

Thanks for your interest in the University of Minnesota Medical School, where we are committed to a three-fold mission: delivering the highest level of clinical care, fostering an environment of research and innovation, and training the best physicians who will advance health in Minnesota and beyond.

Our outstanding medical school faculty members have a long track record of major discoveries. Here, you’ll have great collaborators and wonderful colleagues. With access to world-class resources, people, and facilities, you’ll develop into a highly effective researcher, educator, and the best clinician you can be.

As a student at the University of Minnesota Medical School, you’ll leverage this environment of innovation and collaboration to not only learn how to be a health care practitioner, but a researcher and educator should you choose.

Our thriving Medical School community is made up of more than 3,300 people working toward a common goal – improving health

  • more than 920 medical students from 17 states
  • more than 800 residents and fellows in 32 different clinical programs across 20 clinical specialties
  • 1,600 Medical School faculty physicians and scientists who teach, do research, and provide patient care

We integrate our outstanding faculty with clinical partners, helping to prepare our medical students, residents, and fellows for service in the field. Our primary clinical affiliates are the nationally recognized University of Minnesota Medical Center, Fairview, and the University of Minnesota Amplatz Children’s Hospital.

Today, we are deepening our commitment to partnership with the development of an exciting new Biomedical Discovery District. This effort brings together biomedical scientists and students throughout the Medical School to collaborate in state-of-the-art facilities.

By operating at the intersection of clinical care, research, and education, the University of Minnesota Medical School is leading the way in discovery and academic excellence.
