We integrate our outstanding faculty with clinical partners, helping to prepare our medical students, residents, and fellows for service in the field. Our primary clinical affiliates are the nationally recognized University of Minnesota Medical Center, Fairview, and the University of Minnesota Amplatz Children’s Hospital.
Today, we are deepening our commitment to partnership with the development of an exciting new Biomedical Discovery District. This effort brings together biomedical scientists and students throughout the Medical School to collaborate in state-of-the-art facilities.

An accomplished researcher and clinician, Dr. Friedman was appointed vice president for health sciences and dean of the Medical School in January 2011.

Opening in 2011, University of Minnesota Amplatz Children’s Hospital will be an ecologically friendly, 200+ bed, 227,000-square-foot facility that consolidates 50 pediatric specialties in one patient- and family-centered location.
