Friday ALRT Newsletter
THE FRIDAY A.L.R.T. Volume 13, Issue 16 May 11, 2012 Information of importance, interest and curiosity for A.L.R.T. Administrative Center Staff OF IMPORTANCE Therapeutic Radiology is shedding its winter coat and emerging this spring with a new name. The department’s new name is Radiation Oncology, as soon as Regents’ approval is received, which reflects the department’s emphasis on treating cancer through radiation therapies and methods. As a result, “ALRT” is shedding the “T” in our acronym and will take on a new name. That’s where you come in. Play with the letters! Come up with new ways to describe these hospital-based departments. Submit ideas to Kathleen Dockter at kathleen@umn.edu by May 25th! We have an employee in Lab Medicine who is on an extended medical leave. She will run out of sick leave and vacation. If anyone in civil service or union-represented positions is interested in making a vacation donation, let me know. OF INTEREST Today is the last day to complete the Pulse Survey – give the University some feedback. Look back in your email stack for the electronic invitation to participate, and the link. The survey takes approximately 20 minutes to complete, and feedback is critical to the University’s ability to understand the work experience of employees. Responses are confidential and participation is voluntary. To view unit-by-unit survey participation in real time, see Pulse Survey. For more information, see Frequently Asked Questions. Heads up! Beginning some time this month, students, staff, and faculty with an active Internet ID and UM email address will be added to the new TXT-U system. If your cell phone number is included in your University personal information you will receive emergency text messages. This will allow the U to reach more people with urgent information. In the past, TXT-U has been an "opt-in" system; now it will be an “opt-out” system. You will receive information about how to opt-out as soon as the new system is in place. Prior to May 18, be sure to check your personal contact information listed with the University and add or update your cellular phone information. Go here to check your personal information and add or update your cellular phone information. To learn more, visit the TXT-U website. I am currently an "opt-in" and was sound asleep in my little Wisconsin cabin bedroom at 2:00 on a recent Sunday morning and my cell phone began ringing. On opening it I received a TXT-U message that there was a severe thunderstorm warning in the Twin Cities. Oh, well. It’s still a good idea. OF CURIOSITY Get another 100 points in your Wellness Points Bank by attending a biometric health screening. Appointments are still available between May 15 and August 29. Screenings take place from 7:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. during different times of the month and are no cost to UPlan members as well as covered spouses or same-sex domestic partners.
