Daniel Duprez, MD, PhD
Professor of Medicine Practice Philosophy “I work in a hospital, but the major part of my research is trying to find ways to keep people out of the hospital.” Daniel Duprez, M.D. At the University of Ghent (Belgium), Dr. Duprez completed medical school, a residency, a cardiology fellowship, a doctorate in biomedical sciences, and a Ph.D. in cardiology. He also completed a physiology fellowship at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. From research studies to clinical practice, Dr. Daniel Duprez’s cardiology interests span the prevention of cardiovascular disease in the general population to its occurrence in patients with HIV. Dr. Duprez is the author of more than 200 articles, abstracts, and book chapters, and lectures nationally and internationally on a wide range of cardiology topics. An internationally-renowned expert in vascular biology, Dr. Duprez’s current research involves arterial mechanics and stiffness, biomarkers for early cardiovascular disease, lipoproteins, neurohormonal factors and hypertension, HIV and cardiovascular disease, and clinical-trials events evaluation. His research experience also includes studies involving mathematical modeling, drug delivery, device design, biomechanics, and biomedical imaging. Dr. Duprez’s primary clinical interests are cardiovascular prevention, hypertension, lipid disorders, and vascular disease. At the Rasmussen Center for Cardiovascular Disease Prevention, Dr. Duprez and colleagues perform a series of non-invasive clinical tests that detect cardiovascular disease in its earliest stages, including measuring arterial elasticity and examining retinal vessels. Each patient evaluated receives a Rasmussen risk score. According to Dr. Duprez, “We’re finding that the Rasmussen score is much more predictive of cardiac events than the traditional risk factors of age, blood pressure, blood sugar, smoking status, and cholesterol.” Professional Organizations - American College of Cardiology, Fellow
