Comprehensive Centers of Excellence Application
As some of you may already know, on May 28, 2008, the NIH re-issued the NCMHD Comprehensive Centers of Excellence RFA, otherwise known as the EXPORT (P60). We have anticipated the release for a while, so it is exciting to finally see it out officially. The challenge is that it is due August 29 which leaves us with 80 working days! This ought to be a strong collaborative effort across programs and schools. To get us started, we would like to convene a meeting of faculty interested in being part of the discussion about responding to this RFA on Wednesday June 4, 12-1:30 pm in room 202, 717 Delaware. Lunch will be provided; to ensure that we order enough lunch, RSVP to phdr at umn.edu by noon Tuesday 6/3. To make this a productive meeting, please take time to read the RFA from the link below before the meeting. If you know of anyone who might be interested, please feel free to forward this information to them. UPDATE 8/09: The University of Minnesota Medical School was awarded $6.24 million by the National Institutes of Health to establish a Center for Excellence in Health Disparities Research, Engagement, and Training (CeHDRET) focusing on minority health and health disparities. More then 30 percent of Minneapolis is composed of ethnic minorities, and this grant will help provide the Medical School with the resources to enhance opportunities for diverse populations and improve minority health overall. Read more online. UPDATE 10/08: We would like to extend a huge 'thank you' to everyone that has been involved in this process. The application has been submitted and we expect to hear the review outcome and feedback in the first quarter of 2009. This process could not have been possible without your dedication and genuine teamwork over the last few months. UPDATE 6/11/08: As mentioned in the meeting last week attended by over 30 faculty, one of the first steps in the process is identifying major research projects that would be part of the P60 application. In order to capture as much as possible of the outstanding health disparities research being conducted at our institution, we will be using an internal pre-application RFA mechanism. To this end, please see the internal RFA for major projects that would be considered for inclusion in the final P60 application below. Please help circulate this widely if you know of others who may be interested but did not attend the initial meeting. Please contact us if you have any questions or suggestions regarding this.
