Research Interests and areas of potential collaboration:
Dietary management of Diabetes Mellitus
Weight reduction in Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus
Dietary effects on insulin sensitivity

Projects Underway:

1. Combination Weight Loss Therapy for Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus

  • Randomized clinical trial of combination weight loss therapy using Slim Fast meal replacement product and sibutramine in obese individuals with type 2 diabetes.
    Currently recruiting subjects.  Contact number 612-626-1455 for information.

2. Study of Health Outcomes of Weight Loss

  • NIH funded multi-center trial of effect of weight loss strategies in obese/overweight indiviuals with type 2 diabetes on long-term weight loss and diabetes outcomes.

3.  Effect of varied nutrient substrate on weight loss and satiety.

  • Evaluation of the effect of varied carbohydrate and fat content on hypocaloric diets on weight loss and satiety.
