Research Interests and areas of potential collaboration:

Type 2 diabetes and obesity - effect of weight loss on diabetes outcome
Polycystic ovary syndrome and insulin resistance - role of insulin sensitizing agents in treatment of infertility in women with PCOS

Projects Underway:

1. Combination Weight Loss Therapy for Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus

  • randomized clinical trial of combination weight loss therapy using Slim Fast meal replacement product and sibutramine in obese individuals with type 2 diabetes.  Currently recruiting subjects.  Contact number 612-626-1455 for information.

2. Study of Health Outcomes of Weight Loss

  • NIH funded multi-center trial of effect of weight loss strategies in obese/overweight indiviuals with type 2 diabetes on long-term weight loss and diabetes outcomes.
