Dr. Resnicow presented a wealth of data on the benefits of ethnically tailored interventions, he highlighted a recent study investigating an African American self reported ethnic identity and the effectiveness of tailored health messages specific to fruit and vegetable consumption. The research team discovered that individuals who identify as highly Afrocentric and with a high level of cultural mistrust were most impacted by having tailored health messages, meaning that subgroup increased fruit and vegetable intake at a higher rate than the control group in the study.
