University of Minnesota Schools, Colleges, and Departments- University of Minnesota Academic Health Center (AHC)
CLSH is part of the Medical School, one of the six school and colleges within the AHC Center at the University which is led by Frank Cerra, M.D. The AHC educates nearly 70% of Minnesota's health care professionals and is a key driver behind the strong health care services and biomedical industry. In addition to the Medical School, the AHC includes the: - University of Minnesota Medical School
Out of the commitment and prioritization of lung research and excellence in clinical care by Medical School Dean, Deborah Powell, M.D., the Center for Lung Science and Health (CLSH) became an official center within the University of Minnesota Medical School in 2007. Some of the financial support for CLSH is provided through the Medical School. - Department of Medicine
Within the Medical School, there are a number of departments and centers. The Department of Medicine includes the Division of Pulmonary Allergy, Critical Care and Sleep Medicine. Other divisions within this department also have ties or interactions with the Center for Lung Science and Health such as Cardiology (e.g. pulmonary hypertension) and Hematology, Oncology, and Transplant (e.g. thoracic oncology), General Internal Medicine (e.g. tobacco cessation & disease mangement). - Department of Pediatrics
The Department of Pediatrics is within the Medical School and, with the Division of Pulmonary, Allergy, Critical Care and Sleep Medicine, co-directs the Minnesota Cystic Fibrosis Center. The Minnesota Cystic Fibrosis Center was one of the first centers to be accredited by the CF Foundation and continues to be in the forefront in terms of clinical excellence. With advances in maintenance and treatment protocols for cystic fibrosis, an adolescent and adult component of care for individuals living with this genetic condition has evolved in addition to the original mission to children. - Pulmonary, Allergy, Critical Care and Sleep Medicine (PACCS) Division within the Department of Medicine.
Executive leadership for CLSH is provided by the Director of the Pulmonary, Allergy, Critical Care and Sleep Medicine Division, David Ingbar, M.D. The CLSH is directed by Marshall Hertz, M.D. who originally founded the Center for Advanced Lung Disease back in 2003. The division faculty are all members of CLSH with many serving as leaders or advisors for the center's various programs and activities.
