Brief Biography Pamela J. Schreiner, M.S., M.S., Ph.D., is a Full Professor in the Division of Epidemiology and Community Health at the University of Minnesota. She received her doctoral degree in Epidemiology from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and has two M.S. degrees, one in Molecular Biology and the other in Biomedical Engineering. Her research interests include the etiology of cardiovascular disease, particularly as it relates to lipids, obesity, visceral fat accumulation and the perimenopausal transition. She teaches Advanced Epidemiologic Theory and Epidemiology II, and is the director of the new concentration in Complementary and Alternative Medicine in the School of Public Health. Dr. Schreiner is the Director of Graduate Studies in the Division of Epidemiology and Community Health and also a Fellow of the American Heart Association Council on Epidemiology and Prevention, and a member of the Delta Omega Honorary Public Health Society.
Dr. Schreiner is currently principal investigator for a large longitudinal observational study designed to examine secular and age-related trends in risk factors associated with coronary heart disease (CARDIA). She is a co-investigator on a multicenter longitudinal study to evaluate the ability of subclinical measures of cardiovascular disease to predict future clinical CVD and to evaluate risk factors for progression from subclinical to clinical CVD (MESA). Dr. Schreiner is also a co-investigator on a grant funded by Kaiser Permanente. This ancillary study to CARDIA was conducted in conjunction with the Year 20 clinic visit (June 2005 ¿ July 2006) to examine maximal fitness, ECG data, body composition by treadmill, and accelerometer data related to the risk factor, genetic, and subclinical disease data in the core CARDIA exam.
Teaching Areas PubH 6343: Epidemiologic Methods III
