Membership

Current Members

The DMRI has a core of faculty who are internationally recognized for their research related to neurobiology, genetics, psychopharmacology, and cancer biology. A significant portion of the faculty are also engaged in research and education innovation focusing on rural health research, medical and pharmacy education, health services in underserved areas, and health disparity.

Privileges of Membership

Members may be eligible to:

  • Access shared core services and personnel
  • Receive an allocation of Institute-coordinated space to conduct research
  • Obtain core grant funds from the Institute's accounts
  • Coordinate with the Institute to develop and obtain external grants

Responsibilities of Membership

  • Work with other members of the Institute to develop and participate in research activities
  • Acknowledge Institute membership in related publications and presentations
  • Contribute to ongoing Institute resources/core activities
  • Provide information required for regular reporting on research activities of the Institute

Criteria for Membership

In order to be a member of the DMRI, an individual must either

  • Be a University of Minnesota faculty or staff member who is engaged in medical research and contributes to the overall mission of the DMRI in the areas of research, education, and/or community outreach.
  • Be an investigator from outside the University of Minnesota who has an ongoing affiliation with other members of the DMRI and who collaborates in DMRI-related research.
  • All members must have evidence of external support and/or peer-reviewed publication(s) within the academic year prior to application. 

Procedure for Application - individuals may apply for membership through submission of the Application for Membership (PDF form).

  • The applicant should include a statement regarding his/her area of research interest.
  • If criteria are met, the candidate will be appointed by the Director to the appropriate membership category

Review for Continued Membership

Members are reviewed by the Institute director every three to five years. Membership is maintained unless there is a change in research direction, time available to support a program, or career direction changes. If a member no longer seems eligible for active membership, she/he will be contacted by the Director to review continued affiliation.
