• U of M receives $40 million for type 1 diabetes research

• Daniel Weisdorf, Hematology-Oncology Transplant Division, was quoted in the Pioneer Press and the Minnesota Daily regarding his research, which found that older patients fare equally well to younger patients after bone marrow transplantation.
• Research by Kristin Nichol, General Internal Medicine Division, was featured on KSBY-TV, the NBC affiliate in California. Nichol’s study found that college students who receive flu shots are not only less likely to get sick and miss class, but also perform better academically.
• Research by Doris Taylor, Cardiology Division, was identified on stuff.co.nz as one of the top inventions of 2008. Taylor created a beating rat heart in a lab in January, 2008.
