Patient Care

The Department of Medicine offers a full range of internal medicine services from primary care to highly technical subspecialty services. The Primary Care Center is our front door, and the General Internal Medicine faculty are outstanding clinicians whose dedication and success is indicated by their doubling the number of patients seen in two years. Working within University of Minnesota Physicians, our faculty are part of interdisciplinary high technology teams in critical areas such as

  • bone marrow transplant
  • site-specific cancer care (such as breast, head and neck, or lung cancers)
  • cardiovascular medicine
  • solid organ transplantation (kidney, lung, liver, heart, and pancreas)

We also offer complete ambulatory care, inpatient services, and procedures in the areas of cardiovascular medicine, gastroenteronology, endocrinology, genetics, infectious diseases, rheumatology, hematology and oncology, pulmonary and critical care medicine, and allergy. Cardiovascular programs are distinguished by our faculty who have specialized expertise in management of heart failure, arrhythmia, coronary artery disease, vascular disease, and heart transplantation.

Our critical care services are nationally acclaimed and part of large multi-center studies providing state of the art care. The Department of Medicine is the largest research department in the Medical School; therefore, we also offer numerous clinical research protocols and state-of-the-art care in which new breakthroughs in science are delivered to our patients today. This approach occurs in virtually every area of our clinical activities.
