- to establish a national and international reputation in targeted areas of cell and molecular biology;
- to provide a research setting that enhances, focuses, and defines current research efforts in cell and molecular biology at UMD;
- to attract significant external funding from NIH, NSF, and other funding agencies;
- to facilitate recruitment of outstanding faculty and graduate students in CSE and SOM;
- to foster collaborative interactions between biomedical and environmental cell/molecular biologists on the Duluth campus through joint research, seminars, and sharing or research resources and services;
- to serve as a research resource for cell and molecular biological expertise for the campus, University, clinical community, industry, and the State of Minnesota.
