J Laundergan, Ph.D., professor of sociology in the UMD Department of Sociology/Anthropology, is the featured speaker at this year's Dennis Brissett Memorial Lecture. Dr. Laundergan has focused on the prevalence of gambling addiction and on trends in college student drinking patterns among the three colleges in Duluth. Laundergan's 2008 lecture title: "Rationality and Happenstance: Life as-----"
Dennis Brissett was a faculty member in the Department of Behavioral Sciences on the Duluth Campus from 1972-1996 when he retired, shortly before his death. The Dennis Brissett Memorial Lecture Series reflects Brissett's interest in the sociology of everyday life. Laundergan and Brissett collaborated on alcoholism/addiction research projects with Hazelden Foundation during the 1970s and 1980s.
