Des Moines, Iowa Dale Nystrom, M.D., a 1978 graduate of the University of Minnesota Medical School—Duluth Campus has been named the 2007 Iowa Family Physician of the Year by the Iowa Academy of Family Physicians (IAFP). The presentation of the award was made at the IAFP Annual Meeting Installation Banquet in West Des Moines in October.
The Iowa Family Physician of the Year Award is presented to one outstanding physician in the state who best exemplifies the tradition of the family doctor and who epitomizes the finest standards of family health care. The letters received from Dr. Nystrom’s patients and colleagues overwhelmingly supported those qualifications. “Dr. Nystrom is a very hard working man. He provides quality care and shows a great deal of compassion for his patients. He cares about me as a person, not just a patient. He also cares not only about my physical well being, but my spiritual well being as well. He is a very knowledgeable, ethical doctor and the fact is I can trust that he has my best interests in mind means a great deal to me as a patient. He listens to what I have to say and keeps informed in the latest medical advancements that would help in my care.”
Dr. Nystrom was a graduate of Worthington High School in 1970. He received his undergraduate degree from Bethel College in Minnesota, entered the University of Minnesota Medical School in Duluth in 1974 and was awarded his M.D. by the University of Minnesota in 1978. Dr. Nystrom completed his residency at University of Michigan and University of Iowa Siouxland Medical Education Foundation.
Dr. Nystrom has served his region as the medical director for the Sioux Center Ambulance Squad. He is also the president of the Sioux County Medical Society. He serves as a Medical Advisor to the Dordt/Northwestern College Pre-Med Club and is an active teacher of family practice residents at the Sioux City Family Practice Center.
