Caring Medical Students Give to Women’s Transitional Housing
June 27, 2006 (Duluth, MN) -- Eight first year medical students at the University of Minnesota Medical School -- Duluth took part in the United Way Day of Caring on June 27. The students gathered household goods and delivered them to Women's Transitional Housing in Duluth, where families moving out of violence live. The work at the house has also been a focus of research by Barbara Elliott, PhD, Medical School - Duluth. Dr. Elliott is the recipient of the 2005-2006 UMD Chancellor's Award for Distinguished Research. Her research focuses on social justice issues in health care settings and has investigated how interventions in health system response can increase access to care for those being victimized.
