Program description

The Duluth campus of the Medical School offers a M.S. or Ph.D. in physiology as part of the University of Minnesota Graduate Program in Cellular and Integrative Physiology.  Further information regarding the Duluth physiology graduate program can be obtained from:

Master's degree

All course requirements for the M.S. degree in Pharmacology (biochemistry, physiology, and statistics) can be completed on the UMD campus. It is expected that two years will be required to complete the M.S. program.

Ph.D. degree

Advanced physiology courses and research projects leading to the Ph.D. are available in Duluth, although students are strongly encouraged to complete a portion of their Ph.D. requirements via courses offered on the Twin Cities campus (ITV is available for some courses).

Application process

Administratively, the Duluth physiology program is part of the University of Minnesota Graduate Program in Cellular and Integrative Physiology, and application is made using the Twin Cities campus application system (i.e., do not use the University of Minnesota Duluth Graduate Program forms).

The Duluth components of the Biomedical Graduate programs have formed a common administrative structure, called the Academic Health Center Duluth.  Details of the admissions process for the Duluth Physiology program can be found on the AHCD website.
