Welcome to our Duluth Medical Campus. University of Minnesota Medical School–Duluth Campus educates students who plan to practice family medicine in rural Minnesota and American Indian communities; provides high-quality academic and clinical education programs for professional, graduate, and undergraduate students; and advances distinguished research programs in health sciences.
Are you applying to medical school? Each year, on average, more than 50 first-year students enter our doors eager to learn the science and art of medicine. In addition to taking standard course work, students also participate in one-on-one clinical teaching experiences with doctors in small or Native American communities.Working in smaller communities can be an exciting challenge on many levels, and our students understand and embrace that challenge from “day one.” After two years, Duluth students have a variety of options for completing their medical education including the Rural Physician Associate Program or clerkships in Duluth, Minneapolis, or St. Paul.
We offer additional programs that distinguish us from many other medical schools. Our Center of American Indian and Minority Health, for example, identifies, reaches out to, and recruits American Indians to medical school to serve Native Americans in urban and reservation settings. It is one of the top programs of its kind in the United States.
Are you considering joining our faculty and staff? In addition to our M.D. program, we have active doctoral and master’s degree programs. Our faculty, which includes both clinicians and scientists, is actively involved both in teaching and in various research arenas, particularly:
- Cancer
- Neuroscience
- Rural mental health
- Environmental science/ toxicology
- American Indian health
Our professional staff ably supports these research and teaching activities. In addition, community physicians across Minnesota and Wisconsin work with our students in hospitals and clinics.
Thinking of giving to our campus? We need your help to continue our critically important mission of medical education, research, and service. Scholarships provide our students with the means and the motivation to excel in their studies without having to assume alone the high cost of a first-rate medical education. In addition, your moral support, influence, and volunteerism can help us develop a stronger school and, ultimately, serve the health care needs of our state and your community. Learn how you can make a difference!
If you have questions, please don’t hesitate to give me a call or send me an e-mail. You’ll find a welcoming spirit that characterizes each and every student and member of our faculty and staff. Gary Davis, Ph.D. Senior Associate Dean 218-726-7571 gdavis1@d.umn.edu
