Beginning with the entering class of 2010, the Medical School campuses in Duluth and the Twin Cities will have a unified AMCAS application. Applicants will designate the University of Minnesota Medical School—Minneapolis/Duluth on their AMCAS application whether they intend to apply to Duluth, the Twin Cities, or both campuses. Applicants will be asked to specify program selection as an initial step in the supplemental application process. The University of Minnesota Medical School follows the recommended application procedures of the Association of American Colleges (AAMC), as detailed on the AAMC web site (www.aamc.org) and in the most recent Official Guide to Medical School Admissions Requirements (available in most college libraries and online at www.aamc.org). For the entering class of 2010, the oldest MCAT scores considered are from 2006; the latest MCAT scores considered will be from September 2009. Applications are submitted to AMCAS between June 1 and November 15 each year. Official transcripts from the registrar of each college or university attended must be sent to AMCAS for verification. The AMCAS application contains information about the applicant’s academic record and MCAT test scores, a personal statement, and biographical information. On the AMCAS application, applicants designate the medical school(s) to which they want to apply. Regular Application The supplemental application includes a supplementary information form, letters of recommendation, and a $75 application fee. The application fee is waived for applicants who qualify for the AMCAS fee waiver. When the supplemental information form, letters of recommendation, and application fee (or waiver information) have been received by our Office, the file is reviewed by the members of Admissions Committee. Applicants who are considered competitive are invited for on-campus interviews with two Admissions Committee members. Each interviewer writes an interview evaluation that is added to the applicant’s file. The file is then reviewed by the Admissions Committee. The Committee meets weekly beginning in October to consider applications. The Committee may decide to offer the applicant a position in the class, to hold the application until an alternate list is formed, or to close the applicant’s file. Applicants are notified immediately of the Committee’s decision. Early Decision Program You can apply to only one school through the Early Decision Program (EDP). The latest MCAT test date is July 17 for the entering class of 2010. AMCAS must receive the application and all official transcripts by August 1. MCAT scores and supplemental application materials must be received by September 1. AMCAS transcript verification must be complete by September 1. We will notify you of the Admissions Committee decision by October 1. If not accepted EDP, you are then free to apply to other schools. If you are not interviewed in EDP, your file will be deferred to the regular application pool and reviewed again in December. Early Admission Rural Scholars Program This combined Baccalaureate/M.D. program is only available to undergraduates in the College of Science and Engineering at the University of Minnesota Duluth. Applications are submitted to AMCAS between June 1 and January 15 after the applicant’s sophomore year. Supplemental application materials must be received by February 28. Applicants will interview and learn the Admissions Committee’s decision by April 15. Applicants must take the MCAT by July of the junior year. An acceptance is conditional upon MCAT performance. A maximum of five students can be accepted into the Early Admission Rural Scholars Program each year.
