Associate Dean's Message
The research efforts of the School are conducted by forty, primarily basic scientists,
with the following areas of concentration: Cancer; Neuroscience; Environmental
Medicine/Toxicology; and Minority Health. An emphasis is placed on the impact
of these diseases or health areas on rural populations. Laboratories are equipped
with state-of-the-art instrumentation. Many investigators are internationally
acclaimed researchers with interests as diverse as cardiac toxicity of cancer
medications to morbidity and mortality of ancient populations, as indicated by
pathological analysis of mummies. Funding for research is garnered through competitive
granting agencies at the federal, state and local levels.
We have several opportunities for research subjects, undergraduate, graduate and
medical students to contribute to our active research laboratories. Interested
members of the public and medical community are invited to any of the presentations
given by research seminar speakers or DocTalks presentations. Feel free to contact
me at gtracht1@d.umn.edu if you need more
information about any aspect of our research program.
