Look AHEAD

Fairview University Medical Center

Action for Health in Diabetes

A national research project at the University of Minnesota funded by the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases.

Look AHEAD is the first research to look at the long-term health effects of weight loss in men and women who are overweight and have type 2 diabetes. About 5000 people will participate in 16 centers nation-wide.

We know that losing weight has many short-term benefits, but we don't know whether these benefits last over many years. This project will help us understand the long-term benefits and risks of weight loss on health, especially on heart attack and stroke.

Do you qualify?
You may be able to join Look AHEAD if:

  • You are 45 to 75 years old
  • You have type 2 diabetes
  • You are overweight or obese

Dr. John Bantle is Co-Principal Investigator at the University of Minnesota.
