Residency Training Program
Welcome to the Department of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery at the University of Minnesota. We appreciate your interest in our program. This department has more than one hundred years of history in Otolaryngology and in training physicians to become outstanding otolaryngologists. We are proud of our graduates and we look forward to training the otolaryngologists of the future. This future includes the use of more advanced endoscopic procedures, more and better training on simulators, and an improved transfer of knowledge to our residents to improve the quality of life of the patients that they will be taking care of for the rest of their careers. The strength of our program relies on its vast and large clinical faculty with more than 25 active clinical surgeons and more than 7 full-time researchers. Our program provides the resident with exposure to all fields and aspects encompassed in Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery. Our faculty are active in all the major subspecialties of otolaryngology including facial plastic and reconstructive surgery, otology/neurotology, pediatrics, head and neck, sinonasal/allergy, laryngology and voice. With this depth of subspecialty experience we are able to offer three fellowships, in facial plastic and reconstructive surgery, pediatric otolaryngology, and otology/neurotology. All aspects of otolaryngology-head and neck surgery will be covered during your five years of training, including all aspects of otology, all aspects of pediatrics including cleft palate, as well as extensive experience in head and neck oncology, head and neck reconstruction, facial trauma, as well as voice and sinonasal disorders. In this program you will work hard, but you will be exceedingly well trained to handle the future. An extensive amount of didactic teaching occurs throughout the five years of training, and our residents are well-prepared to sit for oral and written examinations of the American Board of Otolaryngology.
