Two foundations provide tremendous support to the University. The Minnesota Medical Foundation supports the Medical School and the School of Public Health directly through a number of initiatives aimed at enhancing the research and teaching missions of the two schools. The University of Minnesota Foundation raises private funds to support the academic mission at each of the four campuses of the University.

The Office of the Vice President for Research (OVPR) oversees all aspects of research at the University of Minnesota 's five campuses, providing guidance to individual researchers and managing the system-wide research enterprise.
