Residents as Teachers
Family medicine residents have many responsibilities, including that of supervisors and educators. Below are several resources available to aid residents in development as teachers. Resources Family medicine medical student education director David Power, MD, MPH, and colleagues have developed a presentation, Residents Teaching Students, that provides an overview of several teaching strategies. One of which is a common teaching method used by both residents and faculty, known as the "One Minute Preceptor." The University’s Internal Medicine Residency and Graduate Medical Education office have assembled the Resident Educator Development webpage and corresponding Moodle site. Most medical students encounter family medicine residents as teachers during the Family Medicine Clerkship; the curriculum (with goals and objectives) can be reviewed here. Faculty advisors and residency directors can also connect residents with resources to enhance teaching abilities.
