Hospice and Palliative Medicine Fellowship

The University of Minnesota Hospice and Palliative Medicine Fellowship Program began training fellows July 1, 2008. The one-year interdisciplinary fellowship program accepts trainees who have completed a prior residency in Sandra Gordon-Kolb, MDfamily medicine, internal medicine (and IM subspecialties), pediatrics, or combined IM-pediatrics.

The program's academic sponsor is the University of Minnesota Medical School Department of Family Medicine and Community Health. Sandra Gordon-Kolb, MD (right), palliative medicine medical director at University of Minnesota Medical Center, Fairview, is the program director.

The program has applied for ACGME accreditation that is proposed to be retroactive effective July 1, 2008 for two fellow training slots. Fellows will be primarily trained at University of Minnesota Medical Center, Fairview, at both the Riverside and University campuses. They will complete additional rotations at Children's Hospital and Clinics of Minnesota, Gillette Children's Specialty Healthcare, Regions Hospital, and Walker Methodist Health Center.

It is the overall goal of the University of Minnesota Medical School's hospice and palliative medicine fellowhship program to train fellows to assume clinical and/or academic positions as future hospice and palliative care physicians, and in some cases, leadership roles as preceptors or faculty members, researchers, and administrators in the burgeoning field of hospice and palliative care.

Friday, October 17 is the last day we will be taking applications for the 2009-2010 year.
