PHS Trainings, Presentations, and Publications

In November, Katie Spencer, PhD, presented “Development and Validation of the Constraint–Autonomy of Gender Expression Scale (CAGES)” at the Society for the Scientific Study of Sexuality Conference in San Juan, Puerto Rico.

Also in November, Michelle van Ryn, PhD, MPH, presented “Unintended Biases in Minority Health” to the Medical Board of Minnesota.

In September Bean Robinson, PhD, and Karin Larsen, PhD, gave 1½ days training on sexual health to medical professionals at the VA Hospital in Minneapolis with remote access to health care providers in Mankato and St Cloud. The training covered a wide range of topics including sexual functioning and dysfunction, aging, medical illness, and treating sexual trauma.

Also in September, PHS partnered with the American Association for Sex Educators, Counselors, and Therapists to host a Sexual Attitude Reassessment Seminar. The next SAR will be hosted in Arizona at the 2009 ASSECT annual meeting.

In August, Michael Miner, PhD, presented “Drugs, Sex, and Agression: The Association Between Substance Use, Abuse, and Sexual Aggression” at the International Association for the Treatment of Sexual Offenders conference in Cape Town, South Africa. Margretta Dwyer, MA, also presented at the IATSO conference on a “Thirty Year Follow-up of Recidivism.” Her work in collaboration with Rebecca Swinburne-Romine, MA, has included an examination of the case histories of 750 sex offenders. The hypothesis is that, while treatment may be necessary for some offenders, others may not need treatment to maintain a healthy lifestyle.

In August, Brian Zamboni, PhD, presented “Assessing and Treating Compulsive Sexual Behavior” at the American Psychological Association annual meeting in Boston.

This summer Anne McBean, MA, and Brian Zamboni, PhD, gave a two-hour workshop on compulsive sexual behavior assessment, treatment, and resources for the Minnesota Employee Assistance Professionals Association. They will also give this training via Webcast for Lawyers Concerned for Lawyers in January 2009.
