Trojan Evolve National Tour

The Trojan Evolve National Tour visits the University of Minnesota

On September 5, 2008, the Trojan Evolve tour bus spent the day parked on the Mall of the University of Minnesota campus. Trojan staff members were busy handing out condoms and challenging students in sexual health games including a race to retrieve a condom from a night stand, put it on a banana, and then take it off of the banana.

In addition to the fun and excitement, staff members lead students through the Trojan Evolve bus. The bus is equipped with large flat screen TVs playing educational videos, computers for signing the Evolve Pledge, and dual sound booths for guests to record their own video message. Trojan advocates that the tour is an essential means to reach students. Their website states, “With condom advertising restrictions on network primetime television in effect, and over a billion dollars spent on abstinence-only education that does not advocate condom use, Trojan Evolve is designed to engage Americans directly and calls on them to create change by personally pledging to use a condom every time.”

University students signed the Evolve Pledge which states, “I pledge to embrace and advocate for the use of condoms, as a proven way to reduce the risk of unintended pregnancy and sexually transmitted infections and as an essential part of living a sexually healthy lifestyle.”

University health services representatives were available to provide information including Boynton Health Services, SHADE, and the Aurora Center.
