IRB Requirements

The University of Minnesota Institutional Review Board (IRB) requires that clinical research protocols undergo scientific review prior to submission for IRB review. The scientific review must be performed by expert, independent reviewers to determine scientific validity and appropriateness.

Researchers affiliated with the department must follow the Post Award IRB Application Process to ensure appropriate scientific review and documentation of research. Although researchers who are filing Exempt IRB applications do not need to obtain scientific review, they must still follow the outlined procedures to notify the department.
