  • Clostridium Difficile Colitis
Refractory and recurrent Clostridium Difficile infection can be seen in a small fraction of patients who fail multiple courses of antibiotics.  These patients can be treated with bacteriotherapy, and this study attempts to sort out what those helpful bacteria may be.

  • Sphincter of Oddi Dysfunction
Sphincter of Oddi dysfunction is a controversial cause of intractable or recurrent right upper quadrant pain after cholecystectomy, especially in patients without objective abnormalities such as dilated bile duct or abnormal liver chemistries.  The principal study, EPISOD 1, is an NIH funded, randomized controlled trial to determine effectiveness of sphincterotomy, biliary or biliary plus pancreatic, in relieving pain in patients with SOD.  EPISOD 2 is a similar study for patients who do want to undergo randomization.

Contact Dr. Marty Freeman (freem020@umn.edu) or Teri Carlson (612-625-0673) for more information.

EPISOD 1: Randomized controlled trial of sphincterotomy versus sham for type III SOD (upper abdominal pain post cholecystectomy with normal LFTS).

EPISOD 2: Observational study for patients who qualify for EPISOD 1.

  • Evaluation of Belatacept
The purpose of this clinical research study is to evaluate the effects of belatacept, relative to tacrolimus, on the incidence of rejection, graft loss and death in subjects receiving a liver transplant.

  • Once-Daily Oral E5501 Tablets
The purpose of this study is to evaluate the efficacy of once-daily Oral E5501 in subjects with chronic liver diseases and thrombocytopenia prior to elective surgical or diagnostic procedures, to evaluate the safety of short-term administration of E5501 and to evaluate the pharmacokinetics (PK) of E5501.

  • Reversal of Hepatorenal Syndrome Type 1 With Lucassin® (Approval Pending)
This study is designed to evaluate the efficacy and safety of intravenous Lucassin® (terlipressin) versus placebo for the treatment of type 1 hepatorenal syndrome (HRS) in subjects receiving standard of care albumin therapy.

  • Pharmacokinetics of Sotrastaurin and Tacrolimus vs. a Tacrolimus/Mycophenolate Mofetil-based Control Regimen (Approval Pending)
This study will assess the safety and efficacy of different doses of sotrastaurin when combined with tacrolimus for the prevention of acute rejection after de novo liver transplantation.
