Mohamed Hassan, M.D.
Education & TrainingDr. Hassan has trained at the Somali National University and the University of Rome “La Sapienza” where he finished a Gastroenterology Fellowship. In addition, he completed a residency program in Internal Medicine and a Gastroenterology Fellowship at Howard University Hospital in Washington DC. He also completed an advanced fellowship in Hepatology and Liver Transplant Medicine at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota.
Dr. Hassan became a faculty member as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Medicine-Gastroenterology Division at the University of Minnesota in 2004. His responsibilities include: Endoscopic Services, in-patient consults, and out-patient clinics.
Board Certification Internal Medicine, 2000 Gastroenterology, 2003
Dr. Hassan is currently a member of ACG, AGA, and AASLD. He received the AASLD Schering Hepatology Fellowship Award in 2003-2004.
ResearchDr. Hassan has special interest in viral hepatitis and liver transplant medicine. He is currently establishing a research project on viral hepatitis in minority communities in the Twin Cities area. He has published articles both in international and national medical journals on viral hepatitis and other related topics in Somalia. He also published in the United States on the topic of hepatitis C in sickle cell patients.
