Research

Dr. Gupta’s research interests include studying the diagnostic role of Endoscopic Ultrasound for chronic pancreatitis. Currently he is also involved in techniques to improve the yield of cytology on EUS FNA for cystic neoplasms of the pancreas.

He is also involved in research studying newer devices for cannulation of bile duct and outcomes of newer biliary stents. Dr Gupta also has special interest in development of medical devices and newer minimal invasive concepts to improve outcomes of endoscopic procedures.

Education & Training

Dr. Gupta completed his medical school at University College of Medical Sciences in New Delhi, India.  He then trained in Internal Medicine and finished his Gastroenterology fellowship at State University of New York at Downstate Medical center. Following his Gastroenterology fellowship he completed an additional year of training in therapeutic endoscopy with special emphasis on ERCP (Endoscopic Retrograde Cholangio Pancreatography) and EUS (Endoscopic Ultrasound) at the University of Minnesota Medical center and Hennepin County Medical Center.

Dr. Gupta joined the faculty in Department of Medicine-Gastroenterology Division at the University of Minnesota in 2007. His clinical responsibilities include outpatient services, in-patient consults focused towards pancreatico-biliary diseases. He is also responsible for pancreatico-biliary endoscopy which includes a wide spectrum of therapeutic procedures like biliary and pancreatic manometry, biliary and pancreatic stents, stone removal, cholangioscopy, electrohydraulic shock wave lithotripsy, endoscopic ultrasound with fine needle aspiration and other therapeutic endoscopic procedures which include esophageal and enteral stents. He is also actively involved with the Minneapolis Pancreas and Liver Center which provides a state of the art, multi-disciplinary approach to benign and malignant diseases of the pancreas, liver and biliary system.
