Purpose
To clarify the appropriate classification and appointment types for residents/fellows (trainees).

Policy

Primary Paid Appointments
Trainees must have a primary appointment in one of the following classifications.

Residents:

  • 9556 Medical Resident
  • 9559 Medical Resident – Graduate Program
  • 9582 NIH NRSA Medical Resident
  • 9583 NIH NRSA Medical Resident – Graduate Program

Fellows:

  • 9555 Medical Fellow
  • 9554 Medical Fellow – Graduate Program
  • 9568 NIH NRSA Medical Fellow
  • 9569 NIH NRSA Medical Fellow – Graduate Program
     

Secondary Without Salary Appointments
Accredited (Medicare eligible) training programs:

  1. Trainees may not hold a secondary appointment at the University of Minnesota or University of Minnesota Physicians

Non-accredited (non-Medicare eligible) training programs:

  1. Trainees may hold a secondary appointment at the University of Minnesota or University of Minnesota Physicians
