Benefits
Introduction: This page provides information on the benefits available to residents and fellows.
The Office of Student Health Benefits manages resident and fellow benefits including: dental; health; life; voluntary life, long-term and short-term disability, insurance coverage changes and pre-tax benefits. For comprehensive information on your benefits, please refer to the Office of Student Health Benefits website. This summary document provides a quick overview of the benefits. Benefit premiums are prorated based on the trainees official start date in the program and billed to the resident/fellow and their department accordingly. Incoming residents and fellows on the University of Minnesota's AHC Student Health Benefit Plan during spring semester 2012 will continue coverage on the AHC Student Health Benefit Plan until August 23, 2012. These students may begin single coverage and payroll deductions on the HealthPartners plan for residents and fellows as of August 24, 2012. The date of coverage changes annually, and will be updated accordingly. During an unpaid leave of absence, the University discontinues its contribution toward the cost of your medical, dental, and life insurance benefits. You have the option to continue these benefits and your flexible spending accounts (health care and/or dependent care), but you will be responsible for paying for the full cost of the coverage. Once you return to active employment, you will again receive the University's contribution, if eligible. You may continue all, some or none of your benefits while on an unpaid leave of absence. If you choose to continue some or all of your benefits, you will be directly billed for the cost of the coverage. Questions about your benefits can be directed to the Office of Student Health Benefits.
