Purpose
To clarify the considerations to take into account when accepting gifts from vendors or patients.
Policy:
Vendors
In accordance with guidelines set forth by the American Medical Association Statement on Gifts to Physicians, acceptance of gifts from industry vendors is discouraged. Any gifts accepted by trainees should not be of substantial value. Accordingly, textbooks, modest meals and other gifts are appropriate only if they serve a genuine educational purpose.
Acceptance of gifts should not influence prescribing practices or decision to purchase a device.
Patients
Any gifts from patients accepted by trainees should not be of substantial value.
