Purpose This policy outlines the requirement that UMMS residents and fellows use the Residency Management Suite (RMS) to update and approve their assignments and hours in the duty hours module for all training related activities.
The data from this process is used to support the ACGME requirement of duty hours monitoring; the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) regulations on reporting resident/fellow training related activities for reimbursement; and invoicing our affiliate hospitals for residents/fellows stipends and benefits.
Policy All residents/fellows in University of Minnesota ACGME accredited programs or programs that lead to board eligibility by a specialty board of the ABMS are required to update and approve their assignments and hours in the duty hours module of RMS on a daily basis.
Residents/fellows are required to attend RMS training which is provided within their department/program.
Residents/fellows must comply with the policies/procedures outlined by the Metro Minnesota Council on Graduate Medical Education (MMCGME), the UM GME Administrative Office and their respective department/program.
Compliance is monitored by the respective GME program and compliance issues are initially managed at the respective GME program and/or department level. If necessary, compliance issues may be escalated with a report out to the Associate Dean for GME and the Associate Dean for Finance and Administration.
All residents/fellows in University of Minnesota non-accredited GME programs must comply with the policies/procedures outlined by the UM GME Administrative Office and their respective department/program.
