Research Training Program

We strongly encourage applications from minorities

Thank you for your interest in the Hematology Research Training Program of the Division of Hematology, Oncology and Transplantation.

This Program is for PhD applicants who wish to obtain research training in our Program, or for MD applicants who do not wish to receive clinical training at our institution. [If you do wish to apply for our academic Heme-Onc Fellowship Program, which includes both clinical and research training, please return to the home page and select 'Fellowship'].

Our Program is funded by the National Institutes of Health and is intended to provide an intensive research training experience that will lead to an academic career that involves Hematology-related research. In this Program, trainees will work for two or three years with an expert faculty mentor on a scientifically important research project. Our Program recognizes that many skills are needed to sustain a career as an independent and funded researcher, and it is designed with this in mind (see Goals). The University of Minnesota Medical School provides a large and resource-rich environment that is promotive of research skill development and academic career development.

The HOT Division is a research intensive group. We have world-leading programs in sickle disease, breast tumor biology, immunotherapy, signal transduction, vascular biology, stem cell biology, bone marrow transplantation, and hemostasis & thrombosis. These and other research areas are available for trainee research.

Please note that we encourage the submission of applications with a deadline of February 1. However, we occasionally are able to consider applications after this.

In order for us to begin the process of considering you for our Hematology Research Training Program, please send the information listed to:
