Aditya Bardia, M.D.
Dr. Aditya Bardia was a visiting scholar who is currently doing a masters’ in Epidemiology (MPH) at the University of Iowa. He received his MBBS (equivalent to MD in US) from All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi, India and was awarded the prize for best intern in 2002. He then did one year of residency in oncology at AIIMS in 2003. He plans to do a residency in internal medicine and subsequently a fellowship in oncology. Below are his comments about the experience.
I had great expectations of the opportunity and to my pleasant surprise I gained more than I had hoped for. The rotation acquainted me with the way medical care is provided in the United States and provided me with invaluable clinical exposure. I was involved in clinical discussions, case presentations and medical management. This made me more confident of my clinical skills and gave me a vital opportunity to gain US clinical experience, before I join residency. I also had the chance to refresh my knowledge by attending morning reports, grand rounds and other departmental conferences. I presented a group learning session on "Hemophilia" and did a conference presentation on "Solitary Inguinal Lymph Node Metastasis in Colo-Rectal Carcinoma." I also had the opportunity to do clinical research on gastrointestinal carcinomas under the mentorship of Dr. Edward Greeno. This provided me with a further sense of satisfaction and fulfillment.
I would like to thank the staff of the Division of Hematology, Oncology and Transplantation, with a special thanks to Dr. Edward Greeno, for providing me with this wonderful opportunity.
