Sameea Sadiq, MBBS
I graduated in Nov 2004, from The Aga Khan University (AKU), Karachi, Pakistan obtaining Bachelors in Medicine, Bachelors in Surgery (M.B; B.S). AKU is the top medical institution in Pakistan, constantly striving to bring itself at par with international standards of patient care.
Recently in April 2005, Aga Khan University Hospital (AKUH) inaugurated its first BMT unit (only the third in the country). I opted for an Observership in the division of Hematology, Oncology and Transplant at the University of Minnesota because of my special interest in this field and my lack of exposure to Bone Marrow Transplant in my own country. With this observership I wish to familiarize myself with stem cell transplantation. It will also provide me the opportunity to gain valuable clinical experience in a US hospital setting and understand how it differs from my own country. During my first week here, I came to know of the different types of stem cell transplant options available to patients in US which are currently limited in my country and realized the tremendous potential for further research in this field.
I have applied to the internal medicine residency program of the University of Minnesota and wish to pursue my residency in the year 2006.
