Alfonso Tafur-Chang, MD

Dr. Tafur

Dr. Alfonso Tafur-Chang is a medical graduate from Guayaquil, Ecuador. During his training he did a 2 year toxicology rotation that exposed him to several interesting cases of organophosphate poisoning, body packer syndromes and snake bites among others. The medical and social complexity of some of the cases helped him grow the special love he currently has for his profession. After Dr. Tafur-Chang graduated in the 97th percentile of his class, he provided primary care to under-served communities in Ecuador. Having done this for one year, since last September he has taken the required exams to further develop his medical knowledge in a US Medical Program. Dr. Tafur-Chang came to U of M to gain understanding of the inter-specialties approach that the oncology patient needs for a better outcome. As an IMG there are several differences in the system that he will see at the University. Being a part of this training experience in the US will help him in his further work back in Ecuador. He is also interested in interacting with the medical staff in order to earn insights about the oncology specialty.
