University of Minnesota Medical Center, Fairview
The University of Minnesota Medical Center is a premier teaching hospital with nationally and internationally recognized programs. Affiliated with the University of Minnesota's Academic Health Center, the UMMC brings together the faculty, physicians, and research scientists of the University with the services of community physicians to provide care ranging from prevention and primary care to treatment of very complex conditions. The medical center's two campuses are located across from one another on the banks of the Mississippi River in Minneapolis. Infections in the immunocompromised host are seen with particular frequency because of the large oncology services and the number of patients receiving organ transplants (bone marrow, kidney, liver, heart, lung, and pancreas). However, the hospital has an active emergency room from which patients with a variety of problems are admitted. - Rock, R. Bryan
