TIME

PI:  Ganesh Raveendran, M.D.
Coordinators:
 Barb Bruhn-Ding, R.N. &  Emily Caldwell, R.N.

This study is funded by a grant awarded to the Cardiovascular Cell-Therapy Research Network from the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute.

What is the purpose of this trial?
The study is testing the safety and effectiveness of giving a person’s own stem cells versus placebo 3-7 days after a large heart attack.  The stem cells may help the body repair the damage that occurs with a large heart attack and improve the pumping function of the heart.  Follow-up consists of five return doctor visits over two years.

Who can participate?
To qualify for this study, a person must have a first-time heart attack which results in decreased heart function.  The heart’s ejection fraction must be less than 45%.  The timing for delivery of the stem cells is 3-7 days after a heart attack.
