Rarely if ever has there been a more promising place or time for making progress against heart and lung disease than there is right here, right now, at the University of Minnesota. Fortunately, juxtaposed with this increasingly compelling need is unprecedented opportunity. A generous contribution from the family of pioneer heart surgeon C. Walton Lillehei has allowed us to establish an interdisciplinary institute at the University of Minnesota devoted to heart and lung health. As we muster resources to allow the Lillehei Heart Institute to flourish, we will be able to take research, education, and patient care to bold new heights.
With this gift, Dr. Lillehei's tradition of compassionate care, innovative research, and exceptional education will be carried on through the activities of the Lillehei Heart Institute. This gift provides a single, unifying focal point for the many heart-and lung-related disciplines represented at the University. The institute will bring together a critical mass of intellectual capital uniquely able to transform this defining moment in cardiac and respiratory research into better health for you and those you love.
