Prerequisites for all ranks: College/department has plan for complete salary support and laboratory space independent of Lillehei Heart Institute.

1. Clinical Science Department Appointment: Medicine, Pediatrics, Laboratory Medicine and Pathology, Family Medicine, Radiology, Psychiatry
1. Assistant Professor
1. Entry level (K08/23 year 1 or 2):
• 5-year award; maximum clinical effort permitted is 20%; reviewed annually
• 50K development account per year for equipment, supplies, tech, travel,publication costs; salary support not permitted
• Carry forward permitted, additional grants yield incremental resources
2. Mid-level (K08/23 years 3 to 5)
• 3-year award; maximum clinical effort permitted is 25%
• 50K lab equipment fund @ start-up
• 50K development account per year for equipment, supplies, tech, travel, publication costs; salary support not permitted
• Carry forward permitted, additional grants yield incremental resources
2. Associate Professor
   Eligibility: (at least 1 RO1 or equivalent in hand, active for at least 2 additional years, at least one publication in the last 2 years in a major impact journal).
1. 3-year award; maximum clinical effort permitted is 25%; reviewed annually
2. 50K lab equipment fund @ start-up
3. 50K development account per year for equipment, supplies, tech, travel, publication costs; salary support not permitted
4. Carry forward permitted, additional grants yield incremental resources
3. Professor
   Eligibility: (at least 1 R01 or equivalent in hand, active for at least 2 additional years; at least 2 publication in the last 2 years in a major impact journal)
1. 3-year award; maximum clinical effort permitted is 25%; reviewed annually.
2. Amount of award and details negotiable among applicant, Dean/Dept Head, LHI.
2. Clinical Science Department Appointment: Surgery and Surgical Subspecialties
1. Assistant and Associate Professor: Eligibility to be determined by Surgery Chairman/LHI Exec. Dir.)
1. 3-year award; maximum clinical effort permitted is 50%; reviewed annually.
2. 50 to 75Kdevelopment account per year for equipment, supplies, tech, travel, publication costs; salary support not permitted.
3. Carry forward permitted: additional grants yield incremental resources.
4. Extramural funding expected by the end of year 3; R01 or equivalent
