"Microparticles Bearing Tissue Factor in Sickle Cell Anemia"
Mentors: Nigel Key, M.D., Robert Hebbel, M.D.

Dr. Shet's overall research interest focuses on understanding the underlying mechanisms of activation of the coagulation system in disease. Currently, he is using sickle cell anemia as a model to study the cellular origin and biological function of blood derived microparticles. His group has recently described circulating tissue factor microparticles that are derived from endothelial cells and monocytes. Their future studies will attempt to establish a relationship between these microparticles and coagulation activation.
