David was born in Minnesota and grew up in nearby Hudson, Wisconsin. His undergraduate
studies took him to Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois, where he
completed a degree in biomedical engineering in 1998. Soon afterward, David
joined a newly formed biotechnology division within Motorola, Inc., where he
was involved in the design and development of microarray technologies for genotyping
and expression profiling. While at Motorola Life Sciences (now a part of Amersham
Biosciences), he developed a keen interest in large-scale genomics and bioinformatics.
When he decided to go to medical school, David came back to the Twin Cities
area and the University of Minnesota, and soon found a research opportunity
that combined his interests: genomics and cardiovascular disease. He is in
his third year and is looking forward to his research into the molecular and
genetic mechanisms of heart failure, hypertension, and myocardial remodeling.
David met his wife, Brooke, in college and they have been very happily married
for three years. He enjoys working on his house, developing his culinary skills,
reading, running, and playing the trumpet.
