The American Heart Association/American Stroke Association has named David Bendeitt, M.D., the winner of their Heart and Stroke Hero Award in the physician researcher category.
New U of M Heart Research Facility
The University of Minnesota has begun construction of a new 60,000 square foot Lillehei Heart Institute research building to further enhance clinical and basic science research and development. Construction will be complete in 2012.

University of Minnesota Heart Transplant Team Performs 700th Transplant
The Heart Transplantation Program at the University of Minnesota reached a significant milestone by performing its 700th heart transplant at University of Minnesota Medical Center, Fairview. The six hour surgery was performed February 2nd on a 47-year-old North Dakota man. Doctors say he is doing very well.
