In January of each year MD/PhD students potentially eligible to complete their thesis and return to clinic will be asked to prepare a written document detailing the following topics:
- Update on status of manuscripts detailing those papers in progress, submitted and in press. Program policy states that a student must have at least one first-authored paper in press or published in a peer-reviewed journal, prior to returning to the Clinic.
- Provide an outline of research progress that includes experiments left to complete before research is done.
- Provide a timeline of work to be completed from January until defense date.
- Briefly explain areas in Medicine that you are interested in and who you have chosen as a clinical advisor.
This document should be clear, concise and include your name, year entered, thesis advisor and graduate program.
This document must be turned in to the MD/PhD Program Office by January 31st in order to be included in the Return to Clinic Advisory Meeting in February. Once you have turned in your request you will be scheduled to attend a meeting attended by a sub-committee of the MD/PhD Steering Committee. The meeting will give you an opportunity to update your status and obtain feedback on the feasibility and appropriateness of your plan.
Final approval to return to the Clinic requires approval by the Director of the MD/PhD Program.
