MED 2010

Defining competencies, making progress

The MED 2010 initiative is moving forward with defining competencies.

Learner-centered education for patient-centered care

At the University of Minnesota Medical School, we recognize that

  • Not only do students learn differently today than in the past, technology and education theory continue to advance swiftly as well.
  • Health care needs and delivery have changed greatly and will continue to evolve.
  • Our medical students deserve the most flexible and up-to-date education possible to develop a strong foundation as they become life-long learners in their medical careers.

So we have launched the MED 2010 project to transform medical education. The shift from a time-based to a competency-based medical education program allows students to tailor their educations to their unique starting points, paces of progress, and interests.
