We have the expert researchers, the groundbreaking projects, and the community partners in the field. And now, we have the funding to take our discoveries to a whole new level with our world-class Biomedical Discovery District.
The district is a cluster of state-of-the-art research facilities just north of the new TCF stadium. When complete, it will provide approximately 700,000 square feet of flexible research space -- giving scientists everything they need to fight today’s health challenges.
The idea behind the Biomedical Discovery District is simple: provide the physical space for scientists and researchers from all disciplines to collaborate and do what they do best -- develop the cures and therapies of tomorrow. Instead of organizing researchers by school, college or department, it brings together researchers working on a specific disease area.
The focus is on translational research, which bridges the gap between science and application – propelling discoveries to become treatments faster and more efficiently.
Currently, the Biomedical Discovery District is home to:
The Biomedical Discovery District is expected to attract as much as $100 million in new annual research funding, firmly positioning Minnesota as a world leader for biomedical research. Every million dollars of federally sponsored research generates more than 32 jobs and $2 million in new state business activity.
Researchers in the Biomedical Discovery District will cure disease, improve health, and grow the state’s biomedical science industry.
